Re: OMC trim Problem

easiest way

u need a meter

energize the solenoid

u should have 2 big terminals which is the 12v and 1 or 2 little terminals

put 12v positive and the big side, the touch the 12v - on the littler terminal u should hear/feel a clicking sound

if not touch and release quickly, sometimes they get stuck

better to replace them if u know that is the problem

Re: OMC trim Problem

I assume your talking about a pre 1985 stringer drive.

Put a meter on the output of the solenoid going to the motor. Have someone hit the trim switch and measure the output voltage.

Then do the same for the down solenoid.

Last measure the battery voltage while while the up solenoid is picked.

If the solenoids pick then the voltage should be very close to the battery voltage with the battery under load.

If solenoid does not pick then move the meter to the pick terminal on the solenoid. When activated should have full battery voltage on that pick terminal. Make sure the ground terminal or ground bolt to the solenoid is clean and tight.
