Can anyone help? My 1992 Mariner outboard is stuck in the up position. The trim motor sounds when attempting to put down, and I do hear a click by the relay. When attempting to bring up further nothing clicks, or sounds. After reading some of the forums, things that have been mentioned so far- relays, solenoid, oil, motor. I'm not sure where to start. Does anyone know how to manually put down the engine? How about the proper way to check, and change oil? Can you just add oil?

Yes oil can be changed. Yes oil can be added. Yes oil can be checked. But it would help to know what model/HP this engine is! Do you have the tilt lock engaged by any chance that is preventing the motor from lowering. If its all the way up, how much farther up are you expecting it to go? Are you electrically savy and do you have a multi tester (volt-ohm meter)? Without test equipment, without any electrical knowledge, and without a service manual you are probably best to let a pro fix it.

Thanks for responding. It's 175 HP mariner. No tilt lock is on. It can go up about another 3 inches. I don't have a tester, or the manual. I was going to the store to buy a tester today. I would like to try the repair myself.

You really need to get a manual to fix it yourself. Factory manual is by far the best.

doesn't it have a screw that you can screw out and bleed it off?

Re: Trim Tilt Prblems

yes it does. It should have a screw on your right hand side when you stand behind the motor. There is a biger screw on the left for putting in the oil. When you unscrew the right side one, the engine is going to come down.
