Trying to find a steering adapter kit (#395245) so I can hook up my steering on a 9.9 evinrude.

Where do I get one of these? Been looking at ebay, but so far - nada. Maybe other solutions are available?

That's 165 dollars!? Actually, this is what I had in mind:

(Image from BRP catalog)

Spent ~$30 on a remote control adapter for this 9.9hp, and that's about what I'm ready to pay for the steering adapter.

Adaptor kit PN395245, can be gotten through any J/Rude dealership. Bout' $40.

Or you can go for the steering tube kit PN174212. Gives you the tube and bolt on steering link to the steering cable. You wouldn't need kit 395245.

Or....if you have a steering tube already, just get the steering link. PN433845. Runs around $52.

Look on the BRP site under O/B Accessories for your year engine and then Steering.

Is there anything out there to convert the cable steering to the modern steering on a 1968 johnson 40 hp ??

Check the link out. Shows you all kinds of steering kits. Basically all you do is add the steering wheel.

You need an adaptor kit at the motor similar to the one in the link posted by tashasdaddy. If you have a dealership close, you might stop in there and get some advice as to the best steering system for your rig. And then go shopping.

Re: 9.9/15 steering adapter

The '68 can be used on push-pull systems with the proper adapters. But I gotta tell you that a properly installed cable and pulley system probably works better. The motor just wasn't designed for push-pull and will suffer from reduced steering arc and possible interference and/or damage with tilting. The worst thing about cable and pulley steering is improper location of the pulleys, causing incorrect geometry as the motor swings back and forth or tilts. If you are talking about running a '68 on a boat that already has push-pull installed, that's a different story. In that case there is an additional problem in that the cable is probably about a foot too long.
