Ousted imams want airline settlement
WASHINGTON, Dec. 11 (UPI) -- Five of six Muslim imams who were taken off a US Airways flight in Minneapolis last month want an out-of-court settlement from the airline for the ordeal.

After the Nov. 28 incident, the airline offered to meet with the group of clerics Dec. 4, but the men declined and instead sought legal help from the Council on American-Islamic Relations in Washington.

"With the hopes of reaching an amicable resolution to this matter, we would like to take this opportunity to ask for a formal meeting with US Airways executives and legal counsel," Arsalan Iftikhar, CAIR's national legal director, wrote to the airline.

There are conflicting reports of what happened after security agents escorted the men off the plane based on other passengers' complaints of suspicious activity, the Washington Times said Monday.

CAIR claims the men were handcuffed for several hours, but one of the imams told the Times he was only handcuffed for "10 or 15 minutes" and that the imams were not led off the plane in handcuffs.

An airline spokeswoman said the meeting request was received, but a date has not been set.

18R is on the money no matter what the...

I think it was Robert Hienlien(sp) that first created that scenario, how we ever let "The Lawyers" get control of our laws....

18's solution is the only solution. :p

Re: Update on the flying Imams.

is this about
"what happened after security agents escorted the men off the plane based on other passengers' complaints of suspicious activity"

or is it about being removed from the flight?

Cause the airline won't compensate them for denied boarding, they can't, too dangerous a precedent.

If it's how they were treated afterward, too soon to tell.

In any case, isn't it reassuring to see them assimilating into our society, learning our customs, such as, find the deepest pockets and send in the lawyers?

The courts will sort it out. We can't because we have not seen the evidence.

If we lose confidence in our courts, then that is a much bigger issue, because we fundamentally foreit our freedom in that case. In a society based on the rule of law, courts are the only ones empowered to enforce that rule, and our very freedom depends on that rule.

I'm heading to Vegas again! PW2 and I are on absolutely the same page and I must assume that he also respects the results of the 2000 election because of that very same respect for the courts that I have. Awesome dude, that's a double major agreement deal right there in the same day!!!! What number would you play in Roulette?

Funny as heck.... And IRONIC. I said the exact same thing about Bolten,DeLay Abramoff, and Rush Limbaugh. Remember the razzing I got for suggesting we "wait for the evidence"? Hmmm?
I am pondering any and all fassets of all these examples, and do not like what i am thinking.
NOBODY hates their own country that much, do they?
Perhaps murtha and cindy. But they are just wierd... aren't they?
