I understand the store's position.
While in college, I worked at a large drug store, and you'd be amazed at how many parents left their children to "graze" in the toy aisle while they did their shopping.

Yeah. Just last week we had a mother leave her kid by the front doors of the store standing on the shopping cart while she went over to the gift regestery. He starts yelling "MOM' MOM'' I went over to him thinking she went to RR and he couldn't see her. She looked up and Said he is mine. Anyone could have taken him or he could of walked out the door. Or fallen off the cart.
when my kids were young I held them or they held my hand. I think they were 12 before they didn't have to hold my hand in the parking lot. Yeah over procetive. But I go though a lot of safety classes and safety wise issues. in my line of upcomming advisory work

I spent quite a bit of time in stores for my job. You would be amazed at the number of parents that turn their kids loose in stores. The toys are to play with, the candy is there to rifle through, no control whatsoever.

I have little kids(6 and under) come talk to me while I am working, sometimes for 5-10 minutes before their parents show up.
