What size keel guard would I use? And where do I start and stop the measurement? The boat is 17 feet.

Re: What size keel guard

I have a couple of thoughts on this but no experience, so I am curious what others think as well. We beach often, I don't really like it, but we do . . . Anyway, there is an obvious area of wear on my hull that indicates where it needs to go, Also I don't think you'd want it so short that it may peel off when backing off the beach or peeling off when coming onto the beach. I also think it should be out of the water at the bow at rest. It would seem that there could also be issues by idling along with the front edge always having water pushing at it.

Have you looked at their site for destructions?

The manufactuer says:

For all Boats: Method 1: Determine where your hull will first (or has) touched the beach or trailer. This is your first point of impact. The leading edge of your KeelShield needs to begin a minimum of 18-24" in front of this point. Method 2: If you know where your resting water line you can begin the leading edge of your KeelShield a minimum of 4-6" above the resting water line. The leading edge or the beginning of your KeelShield MUST be placed above your first point of impact or you will have adhesive failure.

So I beleive a 5ft will work for me.
