Yes, but frankly I don't use it much on gearcases.  I use grease most places that call for it regarding sealing surfaces with O-rings.  When I press seals in, I use red loctite.  New gaskets don't need it unless the part surface is damaged.  It does provide a fair anticorrosion coating and also makes a great never-sieze compound.
Johnnyrude and Merc dealers are the only ones I know that can get it, and few stock it.  But a small container of it will probably outlast you if you don't do this for a living.  It's also a great thread sealer around fuel and oil, and water you don't drink it.
