I have a johnson 175 hp ficht. It has had all of the updates done to it. I recently dropped the #1 cylinder, broken rings. local mechanics say that it will just blow again if i repair it, that all of these engines are junk. considering the relatively low cost of this repair. I find that hard to believe. comments

I disagree with your "local mechanics".

Fix it, and good luck. :)

if they weren't "junk" don't ya think omc would still be around. Sure there is the occasional ficht that has survived this long but they are the exception not the rule. Sorry just my opinion.

Re: 1998 johnson 175 ficht

if you install new ficht injectors make shure they calibrate the computer for the new injector.
all the ficht injectors have unique caracteristics that come with software to be callibrated on the ecm.

i dont think its junk, only a very good system in its growing stage.
look at optimax thats ............................?

BRP is perfecting this uniqeu injection system.
i think it has a lot of potential.
more then hpdi or optimax in my opinion. its totaly computer controlled. no high pressure pump is needed. only about 35 psi i believe. so no fuel pressure drops. the plunger in the injector slams it in around 1200 psi. no other outboard can do this like ficht injectors. there is no technology advancing faster than electronics so thats why i think it has more potential than high pressure plumbing like yamaha hpdi and optimax.
BRP and 2 stroke, i think its only the beginning of new 2 stroke technology.
i think e-tec or earlyer ficht are still relative simple machines with 21 century electronic injectors.
wich can only get better.

would i rebuild that 175 is a good question.
you have to find a mechanic who is very familiar with the ficht motors and can figure out why it blew the first time.
may be it wasnt the injector at all.
remember how people blamed the vro ?
