Need help identifying this motor

I was hoping that someone here could identify this motor. I am told it is a 1987 Merc 115. The Merc 115 is pretty obvious, however, searching the web for pics of an 87' tell me it isn't.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to iboats!!

Could you provide a serial # ? It should be on the pivot on the front.

The main wire harness connector and tilt and trim unit are not 1987.Could you take a picture of the serial number? That would really zero it in for us. (GRIN).

Thanks for the welcome. Now I must be honest here...I know nothing about boat motors or terms like 'pivot'. If you can tell me exactly where to look based on the photo that would be helpfull. The downside is, this motor is about a 1/2 hour away and I'm not going back today but might swing back tomorrow if that's the only way to identify its year. The reason I posted this thread was to get a feel for it's worth since it will be sold shortly.

Thanks for the reply.

Based on the harness it is earlier then an 1981, in 1979 they stopped calling them 1150 s and called them 115 s. My guess: 1979 115, unless someone changed the sheet metal. The serial number is at the base of the power head, if you pop the cover you can find it stamped near where the crankase and the block are bolted together to confirm the number. JR

Thanks...now you are talking my language. I'm more of a Muscle Car guy so these terms (crank & block) help me. Then again, this motor is far smaller and built differently I'm sure, so future questions may arise. I'll try and do as you folks ask tomorrow.

Again, thanks for being so kind to your newest n00b. 8)
