Is it to early to paint the outdrive with anti-fouling paint if I am going to launch in May?

Just thought it could be something I could do in my basement.........while waiting for spring...:)

Re: Painting Outdrive

Depends on the paint. Read the instructions on the can. IF there is a max time before being put into the water, it's usually noted.

It is a paint specifically for aluminum and outdrives isn't it?

Yes Don........it's the correct paint.

Will have to check the can........need to pick up more.

Thought someone might know off the top of their head.

They might, if you had mentioned what paint you will be using.

Don, you really need to lighten-up..........go have a beer or something.

The paint is Interlux Trilux 33.

Hey Tony, there doesn't seem to be any time limit on Trilux 33 before launch. So go ahead, paint away.

Thanks tie.........

I pulled the datasheet down from the internet and it did not mention anything about how long it you could leave it out of the water after it is used.

Personally,I feel more comfortable painting within a week of launching.I am also jealous that Tony has the time to be doing this kind of stuff now.Nothing like getting a jump on the to-do list.Charlie

Neil - that is the best antifoulant paint to use if you keep the boat in the water. It is designed for use on aluminum - unlike most bottom paint. If you don't keep it in the water, you would want to use a glossy paint like new ones have.
