ok, im back.....1987 50hp 4cyl merc. I've had a stator problem for about 4months now. I could go fishing but could not get back to the ramp anymore than 8 mph. anyway replaced stator, switchbox, rectifier tonight and she runs great., but while running i noticed gas pretty much poring out of bolt that holds the float bowl on(at least thats where it looks to be coming from) . A few weeks ago i noticed that if I pump the ball really hard I could get alot more speed. do you think i busted the gasket on the bowl. Im gonna look into it a little more tomorrow, got to dark tonight to do anything about it. Don't know how to rebuild carbs but i had them rebuilt by my mech. about 8months ago. I tried tightening the bolt on the bowl but it didn't help any.......if you think you know what my problem is, or something else i can check i would appreciate it.

I'd take it back and have them fix it. If they rebuilt them, they should fix it. 8 months is not a long time for gaskets or adjustments to go bad. Call them and explain what is going on, if they are a good shop and you haven't messed with anything, they will make it right.
