Anyone else find this humorous?

After losing it completely over electronic ad signs, placed around the city, by the Cartoon network, the city of Boston tried to scrape egg off it's face by threatening to prosecute the 2 culprits, who placed the signs "to the fullest extent of the law".

When these two schleps, who knew they would never be convicted, were at a press conference with "the serious media", they decided to goof on the press and would only talk about hair styles, instead of the media's stupid questions.

The media, of course, was outraged. How dare somebody not taking the media seriously! The media needed it's sound bites and that was that!

Made my day.

I wouldn't call it a press conference. Looked more like a barricade of reporters to me. These guys know the value of publicity. Good or bad, it's money in the bank.

I suspect they were following their lawyer's instructions.
Amazingly, Rush had the same take on this as you!

And he was wrong, of course. They just chose a creative way of saying "No Comment" which is of course their right, and generally the smart thing to do.

End result, Turner pays restitution to Boston, and these guys walk. Sounds like they had a good attorney, and wisely followed his advice.

Wow, what a legal mastermind. Throw responsibility on those with the deepest pockets when working with a liberal (city of Boston). How many years in Law school did that take.

I bet that they were prep'd to the max on hair styles by their attourny. Great way to get PR and dodge personal responsiblity. It can't be their fault, they are artists. Puke.

Genius.

Great start Ray, a post that anyone can appreciate and understand.

I guess we can start the clock until the next revelling post with your signature that can be understood by everyone graces this board.

If the only way to keep you sharing in a way that isn't exclusionary is to have you take shots at me, it is a cross I am willing to carry.

Re: Anyone else find this humorous?

PW, I question the legal "genius" behind this ploy. It is what any two bit, yellow page attourney would do. Pass the buck to those with the bucks, and say nothing. The problem is, where is the personal responsibility. How about an apology to those who had to clean up their mess?

It is and continues to be my position that this does not reflect great legal assistance. And their discussion about hair styles marginalizes the efforts of those who genuinely thought and acted to what was believed to be a terrorists threat. I felt their actions were consistant with the disgusting, lack of personal responsiblity so prevalent in our society today. Question, if I gave you a dollar to rob a bank, and you in turn did, does that make me the bank robber?

Pointer, they were doing a job, plain and simple. Was it dumb? Probably. It was done in 9 other cities with no ill effect. The fact that it spiraled out of control in Boston is partly evidence of borderline hysteria. The thing is, there is no basis for a case against them or Turner. There was no intent. It was a dumb act misenterpreted by a city on edge. We can't go around prosecuting everyone for dumb crap like this, it clogs an already overworked legal system and distracts from preventing real crime and stopping real terrorists.

This needs to be looked at from the reasonable person standard. A reasonable person would look at those signs and see them for what they were. A person who lives their lives jumping at every shadow and is ill informed sees bombs and terrorists. A reasonable person knows that a bomber is not going to put a bomb encrusted in lights in highly visible areas, taking the risk of being caught right then, when they can just leave the damn thing in the trunk of a parked car and walk away.

And that is really the point in all this. Being vigilant for terror and other crimes is always a good thing, but what went on in Boston was over-reaction by a few that spiralled way out of control.. The only thing Turner did wrong was to underestimate just how badly some people can react to a piece of plastic covered in lights...

Re: Anyone else find this humorous?

C'mon now.

When was the last time a lawyer or a lawyer's client had a "no comment", when they were in front of the media? They are more than happy to plead their case, right on the spot and the stupid "news" media can't get enough.

This was just a great gut-punch to the almighty media.

An example of media idiocy is the recent Florida tornadoes. A newsman stuck a microphone into the face of a bewildered victim, asking "what do you see when you look around here?" The victim, looking a bit embarrassed, quickly looked around and answered "devastation" - WOW, can news reporting get any more compelling than that?

Enough already.

It probably also hada lot to do with following written procedures to the "T" without considering other possibilities, regardless of the circumstances. You know, kinda like the EPA, or OSHA or....(Insert liberal government organizations here. )

Re: Anyone else find this humorous?

Don't get me wrong Jason, I don't this this is a massive issue. But it did scare people, cost the municipality, and although I believe the guys don't belong behind bars a little humility would be nice.

Adding insult to injury, they act like Jerks. And by doing so magnify their appeal to the "watch it bleed" media.

I agree Pointer, they should admit that their actions did cause problems. Acting like a couple of numbskulls makes them look like, well, numbskulls. A little humility goes a long way...
