How an Evinrude 175 ficht should start?

My evinrude 175 ficht start after 2 or 3 key turns when it is the first time of the day (when the engine is warm no more problem and the first key turn is the good one). Is it a normal thing for a direct injection engine or should it start after the first key turn? Could it be a bad timing pointer tuning?

Model: E175FPXSSV (so year 2000). This is an ECU managed engine and not an EMM one (V suffix).

I assume that you are givintg it no throttle? Fichts relentlesly start within the first few revolutions. Unless you confuse the computer by giving it throttle when starting. You might also want to check to make sure the control and cable are bringing the throttle on the motor all the way down to idle. The cable may need to be adjusted.

The battery is 1 year old (but I run every week all along the year) and the temperature was 5 ° celsius.

It seems that is is mostly due to the low temp because today the temp is 15 °C and the engine runs at the first try.

Maybe should I gap the plug less than 0.028 when cold weather?

One thing you need to remember is the temperatures these are designed to operate in. It doesn't affect only the motor. It also affects the fuel and the battery. Battery output diminishes with temperature and so does fuel vaporization.

have you tried turning key on and waiting for system check lights to go on then off?
this allows high pressure fuel pump to reach maximum pressure before cranking
this proceedure seems to work on hard to start/start and stall engines
if so maybe check crank position air gap fuel pressure
do you have a manual?
do you have a lap top and diagnostic program?

Yes I have the service manual and the diag soft.

As you told I also noticed that waiting for the end of the check light boot sequence eases the first start; for the 2nd try however my experience is that it's better not to wait for the check light sequence.

Now that the weather is more warm all is came back OK with my engine.

Thank all you for your support
