I have a 1990 johnson 200 and my uncle gave me that boat which it is in really good shape, just been sittin up. I have tried cleaning all the hoses and even replaced the impeller. Someone told me that you didn't need the thermostat so I tried taking the two off to see if maybe they were broke and crunk the motor up, but it's not peeing anything back out. The motor did have some really big ants in it, and I think I have most of them all flushed out, but don't know if there is somewhere that I haven't checked that is causing a blockage or something. Is there anything that might can help me that anyone knows. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

It's not clear from your post, but I'll assume that there's no water coming out the tell-tale. Seriously though, some more details would help. You're the only eyes we've got.

Is there water coming out the exhaust?

If so, it could just be a plugged tell-tale.

take the cover off follow the pee hose back to the fitting where it attaches to the motor. remove the hose, try the engine. should work. then use a heavy weed eater string and clear the hose. insects love the pee hole. if this doesn't work, make sure the key stayed in place on the impeller.

Re: Help!! Trouble with motor peeing!

I will check the impeller again. I have already taken all of the hoses off and cleaned them out. The ants got into the motor in through the foot. Before, I had a small trickle of water and since I replaced the impeller, I have nothing. The key might of moved like you said. The replacement kit that I bought for it has two keys, from what I am guessing what the key is, a black one and a white one, besides the size, what is the difference. I was thinking that I only needed one since the old one has just a white one in it.

You also need to get the thermostats (preferably new ones) back into the engine after you get the cooling system functional. The factory installed them for a reason.

Re: Help!! Trouble with motor peeing!

When I replaced the impeller in the motor, it had one while little peice of plastic in it in which I am guessing is a key. The replacement kit that I bought has that peice and a smaller black one. Is there a reason for the other one or is it just that the kit can be used for another motor also? Also, this peice of plastic does go into the groove that is on the bottom of the rod right because when I took the old one out, it fell out before I got a chance to see exactly how it was in.

Re: Help!! Trouble with motor peeing!

Brp shows an early and late lower unit for your engine, but they both use the same inpeller and key. the spare key probably is as you assumed. if you need a diagram go here. follow the prompts to your engine

while you have the lower off, you may want to pull the thermostat, and flush the system.with a water hose. may have an ants nest in there stopping things up
