I plan on mounting a humminbird 565 puck transducer in the hull, with in a 2 inch tube of pvc. What type of clear silicon would you recomd. There is a west marine in a town close by

Use a two part epoxy, not silicon.

Before you mount it you might want to make sure it works properly in the place you have chosen.

Yep, a solid layer of bubble free epoxy, covering the entire bottom of the puck.

Why are you putting it in a pvc tube?

The harder the better. We're talking about transmitting sound waves and solids do it better. 10-4 on epoxy.

I didn't have any epoxy handy this time when I recently put mine in the current boat (I was out of it, live in the country, and don't go to town very often.....maybe I should have waited to move it).

The glue I used didn't setup hard (like I thought it would) and my fish's tails are slightly smeared at full indicator speed. I don't remember them being smeared before. Slowing it down helps. Don't know if there is any correlation or I'm just imagining things.

you sand the inside hull with coarse grit sand paper, clean with acetone, then cut a piece of 2 inch dia pvc tube at the angle of interior hull so it is straight up, then load the tube with approx 1/2 to 3/4 full of good clear silicon, push the puck transducer in slowly, not to create bubbles, push as close to the hull as possible, don't let it touch the bottom, then top off, if signal turns out bad you can re-do.

Why does it have to be clear silicone? The transducer doesn't know what color it is. GE RTV (room temperature vulcanizing) is availble (clear or white) at any home/hardware store. Seems messy and as was mentioned, signals shoot through a solid better than the equivalent of rubber.

Doesn't the silicone act as a rubber? could you not fill the pvc with epoxy and then push it in? Then when it sets, it will be shooting through a solid and therefore have a better picture.
