Hi all - first time poster here. I've got a 2002 50 hp Yamaha 2-stroke on my V1965 Carolina Skiff - the rig is run in saltwater. I change the plugs every Spring & by season's end the lower 2 plugs have a fair amount of rust on them. The lowest has the most, the bottom half of the middle plug some rust & none on the top plug. So it would seem that water is entering the case from the bottom & spraying up, but I see no spot where water can enter. The gasket is fine & it seems almost impossible for a spray of water to find it's way past the seal at that location. I did notice that the water coolant discharge line runs past that area, so is it possible that I've got a pinhole in the discharge line?

Thank you for your time.

If salt water was getting in there, you'd see obvious residue. It's the salt air that's doing it. Champion makes marine sparkplugs that have stainless steel bases. I don't know if they make one for yours, but it would be worth looking into.

Thanks for the reply willy - never even imagined it could be the salt air. I'll look into the champions.
