I can barely start AQ171A, I don't see chokes on twin carbs. There is a wire going nowhere from top of one of them. Smart guys help beginner!!! Nothing in
Clymer book except mix and idle adjustment. Engine is smoking and spurg plugs are covered with dry black carbon deposits. I could not find anything on internet. Boat is 83 Pro-line 23', but I was told that engine was installed later (it was not manufactured in 83). I have no problem sending $20 check to any smart guy who helps to solve this.

I have the Solex PAI on my AQ131, this past fall I had a carb problem similar to yours and had to completely disassemble the cab and clean it due to a moisture and fuel problem. I rebuilt the carb about five years ago and did not have any problems until this past year when we went to the E-10 gas.

On those engines, you really have to work the throttle to get fuel into the carbs, those motors are cold natured, till they warm-up, 10 -15 swings on the throttle arm will get the fuel into the engine and it will fire, also change the fuel filter, and check the fuel pump for fuel flow

There is no gas pedal or anything in the boat. I am new to boats, how do I pump gas except if I open engine cover and disconnect cable? The only another thing I know about is pushing gear lever to forward before I start engine. thanks.

Depending on you boat, there should be a handle on the right side, kinda close to the steering wheel, that is the throttle/gearshift, some controls have a button in the center of the piviot area, or you grab the base at the piviot point and pull it out ( towards the center of the boat ) and that will disengauge the shift linkage, and allow throttle only operation, then you'll pump the throttle forward 10 - 15 time and that motor should fire, provided that there is fresh fuel

Call your local Coast Guard Auxiliary, they can be found in the Government section of the phone book. Set up a safety check for you and your boat, they will be glad to show you the basics of boating and the operation of your water craft, this is their job and will be glad to give you hands personal training for free.
