Geez, for the most part is it was a peace full day in the cellar but I see that things are returning to the Political Crap already. I certainly can't speak for anyone else but I thought it was refreshing. I am neather a Rep. or a Dem. so both sides have have their points at times I believe. Why can't some you ever give it a rest you apparently will never agree. I believe thats part of whats tearing our great country apart. Try once in awhile to be an Amercan put our country first, our enemies love the like of you and the descent you cause in this country. Thanks for the time _ Bob

Hey Bob, I have not been here very long as most here on DC pre date me by quite some margin. I am also a Cornservative Independent, and you maybe to the right of me, (from readin' your posts, but can't read that sharp mind you obviously have). That said: this Country is very politically charged since Ronald Reagan began the Cornservative wave in 1980. The Libs have lost their stranglehold on the Media they had in 1980, fightin' to corntrol the Universities, and the political races are (and have been) very close. George Bush in 2004 was the first President to win an actual majority since 1988. I, for one: thinks it is easy to understand the Libs' anger. For 2008: there is no heir appearant on either side for the first time in many many years. It would be hard to suppress political comentary in any public forum IMHO, without significantly impacting those here willing to share their insights, (some jokes, some junk, but some worth ponderin', IMHO and I may be alone in my opinion here). You are an ace mechanic, and I, for one: thank you for the help you have given me and others with my black outboards/anchors (depending on one's point of view). I think polite political sparing is very helpfull for some, (like me: as I only have one brain cell n' all). Havein' yer ideas kicked around, and maybe havin' ta think n' defend or retreat is a very healthy thing for most of us. Sure: some just can't take it. Maybe DC can be broken into gentle breeze n' hard ball when the new software comes. If that happened I bet you would find the following: Those intollerant types would check into the butterfly n' flower location for five seconds then go to the hard ball site n' resume the torture, (IMHO, but as always could be wrong). Ahhmm.. Didn’t realize that I was being crude when I mostly answer with what I believe the truth. It seems than you get bent out of shape when someone has an opinion that differs from your own. You’re the first on this site that has ever stated that I think that my opinion is the only one, far from it, I want everybody to be able to state there opinion freely.

In my mind that pretty well says it all, not a whole lot of people here like a steady diet of good news, As a matter of fact it will help the ole brain cell to expand it a bit with a little thought, and research when trying to sort out the truth from fiction.

If anybody thinks that I’m trying to put anyone down with my post, that is the furthest from my mind, I’m just trying to get my thoughts over in the only way that I know how. Maybe I’m too confrontational, will try to be a bit more diplomatic in future post

If there might be a "hardball" (read bar fight) forum here in the future is irrelevant. Obnoxious trolling and trading of insults and exaggerated accusations, whether directed at individuals, parties or points of view are no longer allowed here.

Responsible dissent is not a shouting match or a bar fight, and both (?) sides are guilty. Sometimes even the in-betweens get a bit too frisky. Responsible disagreement NEVER starts out with "You think. . . ." or "(derogatory term for whomever) think. . . ."

Laddies point is well taken. It is our goal that civil behavior will prevail. That is the intent of iboats management and of the Moderator Team.

If you disagree with that, please state your views to iboats via the contact mods form or the contact us form.

I would like to submit that treebuddy and Messr. le Duck have been very civil lately.

Over a year ago I made an iboats New Year's resolution to spend more time in the tech fora. I did this to continue to remind myself of the intent of this board. I pretty much force myself to got to DC last, after I check in on my chosen tech sections.

I also committed to discuss topics only to determine where others may differ, not to win anything. I have not held to that 100% for sure, but it is a great reminder to go into these things with the sole purpose of defining one's position and to seek other's positions and then to determine where those opinions differ.

PW2 and I had a debate on something specific in this manner about six months ago. I don't recall the exact topic, but we started miles apart. At the end we realised that there were only a few minor, albeit important, points on which we differed. Discussion ended, smileys, later dude . . .

Good point Kevin, I believe that has been my falling lately. Been viewing it as some weird form of football to be won are lost, will try to remember your sage advice and let the issues speak for themselves, but you have to admit at times it is rather hard to separate the wheat from the Chaff.:%
