I am considering a used boat with the above engine installed (2 stroke) that looks to be in good shape. Any thoughts regarding the reliability of this engine? Anything to look out for? Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks, JML906EOD

Re: 2001 115 HP Johnson OB

They made three. I don't know when they stopped making the old 90 degree model. Great track record! The 60 degree carbureted is one of the sweetest motors they ever built. The Ficht version is even sweeter. My only concern is that 2001 is about the bankruptcy year. Sometimes they used parts that might have otherwise been rejected. Usually a cosmetic glitch. Not bad parts, just not perfect enough. If that was going to be a problem with that one, the motor would've suffered a failure by now.

WillyBWright, if I had the model and serial # would that help determine 60 vs. 90. Bad parts, etc? Model is J115VLSIF, Serial #G 04897314.

Thanks a lot.
