I just bought an Evinrude 115 /85 jet and would like to know when it was manufactured.
the Model # is 85093d
and the serial # is E05625 the power head has supposedly been changed from a 85 to 115. the 85 broke a piston skirt and ruined the block. Is there any way to check block casting #'s for year of manufacture?
Thanks for any help anyone can provide.

If it was a used powerhead, and if the original quarter-size "freeze" plug is still on it, the original model and serial # should be on that plug. I think it's on top of the block, sorta toward the port bank.

If that Model number came from the freeze plug, then the model year for that block is 1970 originally as an 85hp. Can you describe the ignition system? Is the spark plug wires comeing from under the flywheel?

The numbers I listed are off of the transom mount clamp on a riveted plate not off of the block. When I get home later today I will look at the block freeze plug and try to get better numbers and also look at the plug wires.

Thanks

Thanks to those who replied. I can't see anything stamped in the only freeze plug I could find which was on the left cylinder bank . Also the plug wires do come from under the flyhwheel. This motor was thought to be about mid 80's by the seller but he is evidently way off. I did also get the old block assbly. that was taken off and there weren't any numbers on it's freeze plug either. so I guess I will assume the motor to be early to mid 70's.
Thanks again for the help.
