Making my bow gelcoat less slippery???

Maybe a strange question, but hey, it's getting closer to boat season......

Our dog loves the boat and likes to ride right up in the tip of the open bow with his feet up on top of the gelcoat surface. This, of course, is slippery so he loses his grip and balance all the time. It's not really a safe situation.

I've considered putting some non-slip black pads there like the ones for outside steps or whatever. However, that would look very crappy so I'm checking if there is an alternative product to add grip to that part of the gelcoat?

Any ideas? Thanks.

i think the non slip they use on the jetski's would look better. or you could mount a step pad there. usually black or white with a frame around it.

Your're looking at the problem all wrong. You need deck shoes for your dog. 8)

TMH, I only let my dog in the bow at idle speed. He sits in the passenger seat at plaining speed, and is happy, safe and good as gold.

I ran over my last dog, when he jumped or fell over the front of the boat. He was unharmed.

Sorry, no help here

I agree with Chris but if you must have it, Home Depot sells anti slip in various widths in white, grey, and black. I used the grey on my deck because it is not as hot as black (step on that in bare feet--takes your mind off sex right away) and it adds a little color.

i'm with chris, my dog is trained to go to her spot when we are underway. IMHO thats the best place for them when the boat is moving. my dog jumped out once and got stuck under a floating dock then i had to jump in and pull her out. that was her first time out on the boat and ever since i have been extra cautious with her on the boat. some stern NOs and a few treats later she tucks in under the consel when we are moving, now i just say "lets go".

yeah, maybe you guys are right. It may not be safe for him to be up there catching the wind in his face with his paws up on the bow. I'm afraid he could fall off and getrun over and shredded by the prop. He hasn't yet, but we've been kinda holding him back most of the time.

Maybe I find him a safer spot and teach him to like it. Hey, he can have my wife's spot across from me. She can sit on the jump seats in the back.

another idea .. teak stripps screwed/bedded on the front (cheap scrapps from your local wood dealer )

your dog isnt gonna go and flip off the front underway

despite conjecture.. dogs are smarter than rats..and rats DONT like water :)

however..if your dog is manic depressive..and commits suicide then mebbe its time to get another dog :p
