Hello Folks, first time here,, and already impressed with this site. I am looking for Technical/Owner/Operator Manuals for the above engine. I need to find out about the throttle linkage on the tiller arm as mine is stuck in one spot,, and no amount of pressure will make it move freely. If someone has a drawing from the manual that describes the linkage or what I should be looking for,,, then I will certainly appreciate it.

If your fishing Lesser Slave Lake,,,,, it had better be 20lb test or better!!!!!

That's a funky little throttle mechanism on that motor. It's essentially a worm-gear mechanism. It it's stuck you've probably got the worm drive adjusted too far one way or another. You'll probably need to disconnect the linkage inside the cowling and try and manually pull or push the cylinder back and forth.

You can find the parts diagram for a '68 9.5 on the bombardier site (under literature) to get a better picture.

More accurately it's a rack & pinion affair. The usual cause is #14 gear/shaft is tight in nylon bushing # 12. Corrosion around the outside of bushing 12 squeezes it down onto the shaft and tightens it up. Remove the bushing and clean the corrosion out of the hole and lubricate everything with some waterproof marine grease.

Or it is possible to screw idle speed knob # 19 in so far that there is no movement of the throttle possible in neutral gear. Try backing it off a few turns.

Thanks for the correction - I knew it wasn't right but couldn't come up with the term. I must have put about 5 things down and settled on worm-drive.

On my parts motor the adjuster screw (62) got tightened in too far and cracked the slider. Guess that's why it ended up a parts motor.

Actually, # 19 does not exist on the 1964 and 1965 Model.

On the other hand, # 72, the detent screw, exists in all of the 9.5 models. It will not allow you to accelerate unless you are in forward gear

Guys,,,,, I cannot thankyou enuff for your expertise and timely answers,, and all were very helpful. I have had this motor forever after my dad passed away in 81, and cannot part with it. Anyway, will give it a go and let you know in the future.

If you haven't already solved the problem....I would also look at the idle adjustment knob....if too tight the throttle will be at limited travel and you will not be able to shift or throttle down. Just a thought

To Bobgoodman: That was the point of my earlier entry, that the 1964 and 1965 9.5 models did not have the idle adjustment knob on the base of the tiller arm.

Above is a good link for parts illustrations and availability. Your specific motor isn't there but the 9.5's are more or less the same so if you pick the one closest to your model year it will be a reasonably accurate representation of your motor. There are exceptions and that's why I always let my dealer look up the part numbers. If he gets a number wrong it's his problem and if I do I'm certain he would say it's my problem. I'm certain all dealers are not as difficult to work with as mine. An owners manual isn't all that helpful but the OMC service manual is real important to have. I get mine from eBay mostly. There is a vendor called searayman who has been very good to deal with but others have been good as well. Avoid electronic cd's as they are often full of junk and very little practical infrmation. I purchased a 1973 9.5 manual off ebay last year and it was a photocopy of an original which was very disappointing but I am using it. I've never been to Lesser Slave but my son-in-law does and annual trip in June and they come back very pleased with themselves. Best of luck. Rick.

Is there a reason we've revived a 2 year old thread?
