Wondering if it's possible to put a 150 EFI crankshaft into a 200 EFI engine? Wondering if it's possible that this may have been done to mine. I won't go into detail yet as I may be getting ahead of myself here. Thank you.

Re: 200 EFI Question

Guys, thanks for the replies!
The reason I asked was that my 200 EFI was just semi rebuilt. Crank, all new main bearings, one new piston, one new sleeve, one new rod and bearing, and all new rings. But I seem to have a big drop off in power now. The 70 mph Ranger now seems like a 60 mph Ranger. I have heard guys on bass fishing boards say similar 'less power' things after rebuilds. So was wondering if this individual (not a shop) may have used a different crank. Apparently not if the same crank is used on both motors. That's good to know if that's correct.

Is it normal to have less power after this partial rebuild I wonder? It only has 10 hours or so since. Maybe it just needs to be run more. It does run fine though. So I aint complaining much. The guy who rebuilt it has a solid reputation, but has moved away since. So can't ask him.

Thanks for the replies. I'll check that link posted also. I'm sure that may help.

Re: 200 EFI Question

you shouldn't be running at WOT if you have less than 10 hours on it.

Do a proper break in procedure. and then retest. I am sure you'll have the same power if everything else is the same.

Re: 200 EFI Question

Andy, the last part of the 10 hr. break in is to run between 4 & 5 thousand rpms. This is what I was doing. Not wide open, but at that rpm range it should have ran faster. Wasn't actually running at 60. I'll just stay below that for a couple more trips and we'll see what happens. Thanks for the reply!

Re: 200 EFI Question

During this "Semi Rebuild", did anyone check the reed plate and see if all the reeds were there and intact?

And what was the reason for this semi rebuild?

Re: 200 EFI Question

Don, the individual who worked on this motor, worked at a Ranger dealer beforehand, Did he check the reed plate? I don't know. I would assume so. Again, solid reputable guy here. Has MANY customers. Works out of his home.

Reason for the semi rebuild was cost. $3K versus $7500 for a new powerhead on a 10 year old boat. Lost one cylinder. (forward most one) Zero compression. Frozen. Hence the crank was damaged to the point where it had to be replaced, plus the one piston, and rod. Shut it down real quick, or damage would have been much worse. I drive this boat easy, but the owner before me probably did not.
