I have recently purchased a 1973, MFG, 14.6' with what I think is a 73 Evinrude 40hp engine on it. I have looked at the MFG web page and I'm most certain that the engine is original one sold with the boat. Im still trying to figure out what it really is.
My real problem is that when it hits the water and runs for, from a few seconds to sometimes up to 10 minutes then it dumps a large amount fuel through a hole at the 2:00 position aft edge right down the intake and floods the engine. When this happens I have to remove the fuel line from the tank and turn it over until it starts again and reconnect the fuel. Sometimes this happens several times before it will run without giving me grief for a little bit. I have removed and cleaned the carburetor and that didnt help. Its like the carb is over filling. The float, I think, is working right, it looks good and moves very well. :|
