I have a OMC 350 engine that has a cracked block and a cracked head. I am wondering if I can replace this with any GM 350 engine. I have a good 350 out of an Oldsmobile. I realize there are differences some of the external parts but what about the block and heads?

So how often did you run that motor at redline for hours at a time? Do you think it would take it? Nope! Marine applications have stronger valvetrains and different camshafts to name just two of a multitude of differences. You would be a lot closer with a heavy duty truck 350, but even then there are many critical differences.

Ayuh,......... I can't quite Agree with Willy,.....

Standard Production Marine motors Do have a different Cam than a Car,.... But,....The rest of the Valve Train is Standard Production stuff though.....
His advise about using a GM Truck motor is Very Sound Advise....
About all a Truck motor is lacking is the Brass Coreplugs...... The Cam is Close Enough that you'll Never know the difference.....

And,.... Your Oldsmobile 350 is Not the same as a Chevy 350,.... Unless it was 1 of the years that Olds used Chevy engines.....
The Oldsmobile 350s are a Totally Different Casting than the Chevy motors,+ Nothing from your existing motor will bolt To it.....

Re: Question about swapping OMC 350 engine

That 350 engine you have out of an Oldsmobile may not be Chevy 350. Depending on model years, Olds, Buick, Chevy and Pontiac all had there own versions of 350 and none of them resembled each other. To complicate matters, during the time GM was transitioning to a "corporate engine philosophy" the Chevy-built 350 was used, along with the Olds-built 350 in Oldsmobiles and Buicks. Conversely, some Oldsmobile-built 350s wound up in Chevy's and Buicks. Many teenage oil change dudes were responsible for lots of engine failures due to installation of incorrect oil filters. The oil filter on a Chevy-built 350 is on the drivers side of the engine. It's on the passenger side on an Olds 350. Bell housing and motor mount bosses are different as well.
