Since this is just a temporary towing vehicle until my Chev S-10 is repaired, I am not buying the manual for it. And I know that would be the first thing I am told to do, just like outboard questions...buy a manual.
Anyways, it is a 1993 Dodge Grand Caravan 3.3 liter automatic, with air conditioning.
I am installing a tranny cooler, and I know I have to put the cooler on the return hose(back to the tranny). Question is, which hose is it? The bottom or the top hose?
I've searched the net and can not come up with a 100% positive answer as to which hose it is I install the tranny cooler.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
B.C.

Re: tranny cooler question, Re: 1993 dodge grand caravan

So, I just took off the grill and there is absolutely no room for a tranny cooler. There are 2 rads, one for the air conditioning and the regular engine rad.
Has anyone installed one on a grand caravan before? I'm not sure where it can be installed. And the one that I bought IS for my van.
I'm kind of stumped.
Any tips, hints,
Thanks,
B.C.

Okay, I did manage to fit the tranny cooler in front of the rad, but I still do not know which is the return line to hook it up to.
Help!

The lines Don't really Matter.......

Your transmission, like your engine, is Comfortable at 180*/ 195*......

And either way you plumb it will work Just Fine.......

Thanks Bondo,
I did manage to install it. Although, after reading LOTS about the tranny cooler, everyone says it has to be on the return hose, coming from the rad(to the tranny).
I checked for leaks and took it for a drive, all good. Now it is ready to pull my boat this weekend. :) Good deal!

Some may disagree with me Chris but in your climate I would put it before the radiator. Running an auto tranny too cool is just as bad as too hot. For what its worth the top hose is "usually" the pressure side.

Hi KB,
I never thought that if it was too cool, it could hurt the tranny. I am going to have to read up on that.
Top hose is pressure hose. Hmmmm...that is how I found out which was the return hose.. I took the top hose off, started the van and fluid squirted everywhere!
