Just watched the news here in Seattle and said it may freeze in the higher elevations. So I went out and opened up the two petcocks on the block and the two plugs on the back of the exe manifolds. Think I am OK? Forecasts all say as low as 36 but why risk it.

BTW it is a VP 4.3L 1996, just reinstalled the motor after putting on new Manis and risers. So a little paranoid.

Water Freezes at 32*,......... No Worries at 36*.......

My Mentor always said it takes 6 hours at 28* to Crack a Block,........
I've always been Careful Not to Test his Theory............

Re: May Freeze tonight

You could test it just by putting a sealed bottle of water outside....I'm pretty sure it won't even freeze solid enough to break the glass much less cast iron. I believe you would find you need a couple of days of mid-20's straight to even come close.

In rochester Ny tyhe temp will drop below 32 4 times in the next week but we have charter boats already in.What they do is .......put a 100 watt light bulb under the engine hood (turn it on lol ) dont burn your cover. this keeps everything tosty but make sure your not burning stuff either. If you walked down the docks right now u would think every boat had a diesal engine warmer plugged in when actually it just a plane old light bulb

Anyway...to answer your question--yes it should be all right. you got most of the water out of the block and manifolds and what is left will have enough room to expand if it does freeze.
