almost done, a little ply in the floor and bimini, missing brackets, then get the motor as i like it. solid oak antique barstools for front, and oak porch swing for the back.

On a choppy day I think I'd get quite a sore tailbone :)

Very impressed TD! That thing is wicked! Shoot some video when you get it on the water. I'd like to see her under weigh.

ezmobee, we've got a enough built in padding. the bar stool seats are really the most comfortable boat seats i've ever sat on. found them on ebay, they guy has like 140 of them. $10.00 each, but they're so heavy the shipping from Atlanta to Jax, was $40.00.

I would give a reproductive organ for one of those classic Johnson's. They've gone from steel and chrome trim to plastic and vinyl decals.....very sad. Awesome float TD.

I think you could find one for a lot less than that. Someone's always selling a late 50's 25-35hp somewhere, and they ain't all that expensive. Dynamite old outboards, too. Good looking, great runners. Gas hogs, too, and it's smoke on the water when you're idling at the dock, but they're great.

Still, I think I'd pay money for one...I haven't seen many for sale in exchange for a gonad or two. [grin]

Re: 90% and now the motor

Ok, I got to weigh in here.. Padding vs tail bones. The seating in my boat and the ones I desgined use standard boat cushions. So I can pick colors, mix and match them.. Big deal. But they are CHEAP and when the start to look Ratty, I just pitch them, no Custom work needed.

As for antique outboard, you need to start reading Max Wawrzyniak on http://www.duckworksmagazine.com/07/columns/max/articles.htm

Also start 'shopping' at Antique outboard club swap meets: http://www.aomci.org/events/

Also, I have 3 Chrysler 45 - 55 HP outboards that I have less than $200 in. I bought the latest one a 55 hp, complete with controls for $50. A starter is worth more than that as well as the lower unit.

So there are 'bargain' outboards out there. Read what Max has to say about it, lots of wisdom there..

P.s. If your worried about the gas - hog or pollution, read this article about running E85 in an outboard.. http://www.duckworksmagazine.com/06/columns/rob/maib2.htm

P.s.s By the way the E85 thing only works on motors with carb's that have adjustable low & high speed jets. Problematic on fixed jet carbs, you need a different sized jet for E85 vs E10 - Regular gasahol AKA I can not run E85 in my Chrysler's w/o swapping carbs out.

You need a good outboard boneyard for things like starters. Buying a new one is nice, if you can afford it, but there must be thousands of good starters in the outboard graveyards out there. The one for your outboard isn't a rarity, frankly.

In fact, finding a parts donor for your classic big twin should be high on your priority list, I'd think. Don't worry about the powerhead on a donor motor. Focus on the rest of it. You'll be amazed at how many times you'll go to it for that NLA part you need. You should be able to find a suitable donor fairly reasonably if it's got a locked up powerhead. They're pretty much worthless at that point. But...the starter's likely to be OK. Along with other bits and pieces that you can't otherwise find easily.

Just a thought.

Re: 90% and now the motor

I'd be really hinky about running E85 in older outboards, especially ones from the 1950s like tashasdaddy's.

Ethanol is hard on some of the parts used in those engines, from the carburetor on. It's a good way to end up dead in the water one day. When I was running my RDS-20, I actually located a station that had fuel with no ethanol at all in it for the outboard, just for that reason.

Re: 90% and now the motor

she hasn't made it to the water yet. the use will be just pleasure riding, maybe a little fishing. riding down the the Downtown Landing, and showing her off. she is a 1956 Duracraft 14' Duraflite, w/ 1958 Johnson 35 hp.

Very nice -- Looks like that rear seat just squeaked in there eh? And I love the feel of those old dual engine control knobs. Fit in your hand so much better than today's oblong plastic blobs...
