Heard Styx playing Lady on the radio today, it took me back to the late 70's. I recall seeing them at a High School Auditorium in Waukegan Ill. Paid $3.00 for the ticket, that was before they made it big. Last concert I attended cost me $110.00 for admission.......... my, my, how times have changed.

Yea man.. An earlier thread got me thinkin about the INSANE amount of time and money I spent putzin-around with amateur radio and electronic model-building (radios, timer circuits, do-nuthin machines) when I coulda bee out fishin with my friends or my kids.
Days we NEVER get back.
But Styxx rules.
Last concert I went to perminently-damaged my hearing -- I'm thankfull it was my son-in-law's band :)

Nope... All I have is a 20HP and it has no l/u. I sold most of my boat stuff a while ago to pay for an uncovered medical procedure.
I'll get new black anchors when funds recover :)

Hey 12Footer, I remember reading about that. Sorry ta hear yer boatless. I run 'old glass', (Willy calls 'em: 'rat boats') with old inlines that are a dime a dozen here in God's Country. They do look nice and perform well if ya don't have to keep up with the Jonezes, (I never worry 'bout that stuff). Once ya figure out how ta tune 'em n' watch the cooling n' fuel issues they run very good n' very fast: for me at least. If ya need help pickin' up an old used one, (usually in great shape), let me know. I troll with a small Johnny, so the big fella doesn't load up! I now use Craig's list, (used to pick 'em up on a little classified rag). I don't know what the shipping would be, n' maybe there cheap in yer area too, (which I bet they are). That penisula ya live on has lot's o' water around so maybe the motors n' vintage glass are cheap there too. Some day the Libs may force me to give 'em up but I will run 'em and enjoy 'em 'till that day comes. Just a thought, as the newer stuff is probably much more reliable, but also has lots more complicated systems that will eventually need maintenence, (and cost lots o' $). I get great 100 hp + motors for less then $500.00 and ya can have a few spares at that price, (which I do). If ya stick with the old inlines, and hulls that had that type o' motor most things are interchangable. As JasonJ said: ya can't beat the power to weight on these old girls. Ya may not want to venture out too far in a real big puddle 'cause they are called "boat anchors" for a reason! My $.02. JR:D :D

1979...

I saw Kansas as my first concert performing their Audio Visions tour in the Louisville Gardens. 7.50 a ticket. They recently toured Louisville again, and played at Jim Porters Good Time Emporium, not quite the same venue.

re: price, about a year ago I saw Billy Joel and Elton John...$150.

Man, times HAVE changed.

First car was a 1968 Mustang. Bought HER in 79 too. Spent every waking moment and every penny I earned delivering pizza's to get her painted like a GT. (Blue with white stripes). That car had these cool recessed turn signals in the hood. Man I thought I was on top of the world.

If only I had her now...there was nothing like the sound of Van Halen's eruption from my 8 track pouring out of those speakers.

I'm about to revisit my mispent youth. Going to look at new guitars tomorrow... I sold mine a few years ago and have been itching to play again.

Re: Thoughts of a mis-spent youth...

Was going through my old stuff at my moms house about a year ago and came upon around 300 of my old vinyl records all 60's-early 80's rock. Man did I mow a LOT of grass to pay for those. Think I was paying around $20 to see Rush, ZZ-Top and Deep Purple back then too. The missus and I wanted to see the Stones last year and tickets were $120 each. We bought a composit prop for the merc 1115 and a new bimini top instead.

Not my first concert, but a very early one and I was talked into going. Tickets were selling slow and the small venue was only about 2/3's full. It was a guy I'd never heard of, and many others hadn't heard of him either - Bob Dylan.

Guns and Roses, too bad they have a self-destructive lead singer in Axel. I was at the concert in St.Louis when Axel leaped into the crowd when he got po,d at security for not taking a camera from a fan, that started a riot. What is not I generally known, is that the people with the cameras that were taking pictures were members of the 1 percent biker group known as the “Saddle Tramps”. They are the local affiliate of the Hells Angels. The security for river port where the concert was at is supplied by the local rent a cop agency, so you can see why security, was hesitant too go take away Luckys Camera, as lucky weighs about three hundred pounds, an has about ten percent body fat. I’m sure that the pay structure of the rent a cop agency entered into securities mind also.

Basically the same thing happened in Atlanta and I was at that one. It was only the 2nd or 3rd song and he jumped off the stage and got into a fight. The cops hauled him off stage and one of the roadies came on stage and sang while the band played cover tunes for the remainder of the show. I was disappointed, but at least they were the opening act. I never saw them again live.
