Hello..I am a new boat owner and I test drove this boat last week, and all was great. I took it out today, and when I went to accelerate, the boat would not plane. I backed off the power and made sure I was not hung up on anything and when I tried to accelerate again the prop engaged but anything above wakeless speed the engine just seemed to rev up while the prop speed did not increase. This is a 1990 mercrusier 175 horse...in a 19' monterery boat. Any help or suggestions?

Re: No Power to Prop

Are you trimming the drive all the way down on takeoff? You need to do that and trim out as you approach planing speed.

No, I do not have a spare prop..do you know what degree prop for a 175 horse I/O I need. It has a three blade stainless on it. Can I rebuild the prop that is on it?

Yes, normally I do...but the water was shallow so I was not fully trimmed down to avoid hitting the prop....I did trim all the way down and did not have any forward motion beyond "trolling" speed..but had plenty of RPM on the engine...I hearing a spun prop?

Best thing you could do is get the part number on the hub of your prop and post it and what engine and outdrive you have (Not just 175 horse) and post it over on the Prop Questions and Topics forum.
