Someone decided to send me a complimentary troll issue of Center Console Magazine. I just sat here with my jaw on the floor. I couldn't believe the boats and OB engines (number of engines) that seem to be commonplace today.

Must be a lotta folks out there with a pocket full of money to be able to afford a 26' CC with three 200 hp engines on it in the first place, much less be able to fill up the 300 gallon gas tanks some boast of having.

But they sure are pretty and I know they are fun to run.

The nice thing about them (one of the nice things) is that if the weather turns bad, which was usually the case when I fished on the Gulf Coast.....afternoon squalls, you are big enough to ride it out or fast enough to beat it back to the boat dock.

Mark, I saw a CC boat of about that size last Sat. It had three 250 Yammys and a anchor winch on steroids. I will guess the balance of the boat was gas tank. it was for sale, BTW!

Just for fun I did a mental calculation about how much fuel money you would need to get to the canyon and back, in that boat. It was a big number, just for the fuel.

Around here a 26' CC wouldn't even get a second look. Lots of 30-35' CC with trips out there on any given day. Mostly tournamnt boats with a few weekender thrown in here and there.

It's not uncommon to run 75-100 miles each way to fish and make the run back at WOT to make weigh in. We fished a tournament last winter and there was not one but three 35' plus Fountains fishing the area that had run up to fish from a 125 miles south of there.

With prize money running in the 6 figure range you'll start seeing more and more of this stuff.

Obviously there's a market. Makes sense on 100 mile trips to be able to get out and back. Also for charters, the money is there to cover the expenses, unlike the little guy who just wants to go out in the Gulf and fish.

So there is an article in the magazine that asks the question....500 hp OB's...answer: Why Not!

Well, my pea brain thinks about the torque moment on the transom bracket when the drug boys and their 12 Yammies, or even 3 200's get firewalled in the hole......ouch.

Lots of boat manufactures looking for bigger outboards to use in applications that used to require inboard power.

The new Grady White 360 comes standard with trip 200 hp and an option for trip 250 and its just considered a Cruiser.

Your looking at the 1% of the population (thats 1 out of 100) that make 22% of all income..money is not an object.. you should see some of the boats that hang where Microsoft bigshots have waterfront...my yearly pension is a full gas tank on some

A good part of it is borrowing money on credit. It's how the rich get richer by enabling the middle class to have it all... now (for a price of course).
