I was driving my boat all day today no problems... I was on my way back to the dock when all of a sudden my RPMs dropped from 4000 to little under 3000. I stopped checked things out (oil, wires) everything seemed alright. I started to go again and the boat wouldnt go above 3000 RPMs at full throttle??? There was also blue smoke coming out from the back, never did that before. Any ideas?

Blue smoke= oil burning. The first thing I would do is a compression check. A sudden problem could be any thing from a bad head gasket to a holed piston to a bad valve.

125 or so.....
Anything under 100# would be bad......

They should all be within 10% or so.......;)

Warm up the motor, then shut it down and pull all the plugs. Leave the throttle wide open. Shut off your lanyard switch. Hook up your compression gauge and crank over about 4-5 seconds. Repeat for each cylinder.

Ok call me dumb but how can I turn the motor over with both the throttle engaged and the lanyard disengaged?

It will turn over, but get no spark.

be sure to label your plug wires before you disconnect them so you don't get them mixed up when reconnecting.
