I have a problem with a 2000 175 HP Ficht outboard.

cylinder number 6 is not working.
When I run Evinrude's diagnostic software the ignition spark checks OK, I can see the spark gap on my tester when I fire cylinder number 6 from the diagnostic program. Spark appears fine.

When I run the injector test I can hear the injector click on all cylinders including cylinder 6..

The engine misfires until I turn off cylinder 6 from the diagnostic software.

The remaining 5 cylinders 1-5 appear to be working fine.

I have no diagnostic codes showing up at all.

Engine has 650 hours on it.

I have changed the coil, spark plug, spark lpug wire, and replaced the primary coil connector as it appeared top be rusty on the cylinder number six coil even though the spark checked out fine.

Any siggestions ???

650 hours. That might be a record for FICHT longevity.

All sarcasm aside, Have you run a compression test. My guess is #6 broke a piston ring

Yep. You need spark, fuel, and compression. Sounds like you've got the first two...

As long as the compression is the same as with the other cylinders, chances are you have a bad injector. Hearing a click using the software only tells you that it is geting electricity.

Your 40 volt injector will not fire fuel when you activate it with 12V using the laptop and software so you cannot put a card in front of the pintle and expect it to get wet.

Contact dfitechnologies.com to see about rebuilding your injector.

OK, thanks for all the help. I will run a compression check on the engine today and see what I find. I should have done that before I posted this help blog !

If the compression checks out on cyclinder 6 than I guess I need to rebuild or replace the injector.

When I look up injector replacement it says only to use a service injector for a replacement. So is rebuilding the injector going to be OK with the ECU set up program on the diagnostic program?

You are reading out of an old manual as there are no more "service injectors". All new ones from the factory and rebuilt ones from DFI Technologies come with a floppy that installs the parameters into the engine computer (EMM)

Re: 2000 175 HP Ficht

OK, ran the compression check on cylinder 6 and found 95 PSI, Cylinders 2 and 4 on that side at 90 and 95 PSI so I guess the problem is an injector on cylinder 6.

I will check with DFI Technologies and see about a rebuilt injector. I hope they are more resonable than the new ones.

Thanks all for the help

So how do you get the injector off the head?? I removed the two bolts holding down the top of the injector, and removed the cover with the locking slots for the fuel lines. I tried to remove the injector but all I could do was screw the coil assemble away from the injector. How do you get the injector off the engine?

Re: 2000 175 HP Ficht

Finally got the injector off the head, frozen in place, had to work on it for an hour to get it off. Had the injector rebuilt at dfitechnologies, all is working fine now. Only problem was getting the dfitechnologies software to load up on the laptop so I could download the new parameters of the rebuilt injector into the computer for cylinder 6. Had a few corrupted files, had the files sent via email and all worked fine. Thanks for the help.
