Gas/Oil mix... Again

I heard that 1963 was the last year of 24:1 and that from 1964 on all engines were 50:1? I thought that once they went to roller bearings in 60/61 that one could use 50:1? Is that not correct then?

not all of them, even in 64, the smaller ones still need 24/1.

Samo, that's a question that will never be settled. To my thinking, even though there is no real difference in some models and I tell you it's OK to run 50:1, and you do, and the engine self-destructs, you will blame me. Even though the thing was about to trash itself anyway and the oil didn't have a darn thing to do with it. My best advice is find out how the particular motor is built and then decide for yourself what you want to do. If you believe that old tale about the old ones having different clearances, that is easy to check with the service manuals. That way the monkey is on your back, not mine.
