We Have A Johnson 15 Horse Outboard
Model # Whl13a
Serial #c519897
We Need To Find Out The Year
And Also Where Is The Thermostat Located On This Motor
We Would Like Info Before Fishing Season Ends

it's a 1967 did not list a service manual for it. my manual only goes to 64.

Another mysterious Canadian motor? Agreed, it is a 1967 but that's all I can find about it. If it is based on the US 20hp the thermostat will be in the top of the cylinder head. But if it is based on the old US 15hp, it won't have a thermostat. And if it is based on nothing in US, who knows except a Canadian dealer?

Thanks for your help I have one more question. It pumps water and runs fine and them all of a sudden it quits pumping water the cover says workhorse 15 if that helps. and would the thermostat be on the top of the motor or the side

i would think the impeller went out, the thermo, open to let water into the block, and it bypasses when the stat is closed.

if the impeller went out it would not pump water at all it pumped fine for over an hour this morning untill the water in the barrel got to hot to keep the motor running

does it pump now. if not the impeller got hot also and failed. thats why you have to have it submerged when starting. it's rubber and will melt.

The thermostat on a 20 is under the triangular cover on top of the cylinder head. 3 bolts hold it on.

this motor does not have a triangular plate on top with three bolts it has a square plate on the side with four bolts

thanks we will check the impellor if this motor does not have a thermostat that could be the problem
