I had just recently purchased this motor and I was at the lake yesterday driving around and the previous owner neglected to mention to mix my oil and gas. All the other boats i've owned have been oil injected and you didn't have to mix the oil with the gas. Well i ran down the lake for a while and all of a sudden the boat just bogged down and quit, since I was unfamiliar with the new motor i didn't even try to start it more than just to make sure it would still start. I've been told it could've done a lot of bad things to the motor but i put oil in with the gas and the motor began to act better, it idled better but when I would try to blast off it would bog down again and i couldn't get on plane so i gave up, hoping that i didn't throw a rod or ruin my heads or anything. If anyone has some insight on my problem please let me know. It will be much appreciated.

Is the motor knocking? You probably need to do a compression test as soon as posible.

NO it isn't thank goodness. I plan on running a compression test on it tonight. Someone told me that if i had thrown a rod the motor would be knocking and it defintly isn't. The motor started right up without difficulty and idled like normal, it just seemed like once i put the load on the motor to push me out of the water it didn't want to come up. I couldn't figure out what the problem might be, but just to check the obvious i checked all the plugs and they all were getting spark. Other than that, i'm hoping someone could lean me into the right direction after my compression check.

Everything hinges on the compression test rite now. If you threw a rod you would be locky to turn it. the pistons start to melt and weld to the cylinder walls. That why you need a comprerssion test to see how bad it is. Then we will go from there.:)

SO lets just say for fun that the compression check shows damage but it is minimal...any idea which way I should start moving to correct whatever the problem could be? I know there are a lot of variables involved but i'm really worried about the cost of repairs unless something could be done now to save the motor before it could get any worse. I'm really hoping that i don't have to replace rods or pistons or heads, maybe the trouble could be coming from a scrathed up filter (from running straight gas)? I have no idea until the compression check, i'm hoping for the best but expecting the worst. know what i mean?

It's tough to go the "what if" route because what's damaged could be just about anything internal to the powerhead.

I know you want info now, but speculations w/o any data would be just that - pure speculations.

I checked the compression last night and I had about 60 give or take one or two on all cylinders except one and it had 38. I haven't gotten a chance to pull out the cylinder yet to look over it but I assumed since it was over half on the compression, it couldn't be too much damage. I could be wrong but i'm still hoping for the best. Any ideas?

Compression should be approximately 100+ psi and even on all cylinders. The reading that you're listing if accurate spells trouble.

Remove both cylinder heads and inspect the pistons, cylinder walls, etc.

What you decribed could also be incorrect spark advance adjustment.

You most likely fried the rings, scored the cyl walls and melted some pistons but it is all hearsay untill you pull the heads.

When you pull the heads start from the outside bolts and work your way in.

you will 100% need a rebuild that motor cant be run with that low of compression, an xp150 has 130 psi compression from factory
