tach trouble 90 hp merc

help bought a boat with a 86 6 cyl merc outboard the tach does not work have power, ground ,cont from rectifier to tach rectifier is charging tried another rectifier and another tach still nothing thanks

how did u set the pole switch on your tach?

Which leg of the rectifier have you got the wire for the tacho going to? It should be on one of the yellow leads. ie, from the unrectified side of the circuit.

it even gets stranger i hooked the tach direct to the rectifier tach signal and the battery and nothing, went back to basics when i wiggled the plug going into the control it started to work why did it not work directly on the motor ps thanks for the input
