Re: No Oil Pressure, Oil in Bilge??

Hi,

sorry for the mis-understanding. The measurements were down 10 and down 20 not at 10 and 20. I wouldn't be having them do any work if that was the case. I think a lot of the 1300-1600 is going to be pulling the motor etc.

Most "Real" shops are set up to pull engines. With some type of lift system because it's very common to have to pull engines for repairs.
I don't know what the access is on your particular boat, but most come out in an hour to an hour and a half, and only a little more going back in.
But I am with everyone else. If you ran that engine at speed with no oil, the bearings are toast. You might get it to run on land and it sounds fine, but when you fix the pan, put it back in the water and do another run......... well, then you will find out what it takes to replace the main bearings and crankshaft etc.

I like bruceb58's idea, slap some duct tape on the leaky oilpan and run the dog dirt out of it. If the motor blows then you save 1600 bucks...IMHO

Well...I was thinking about something a bit more substantial than duct tape.

i personally third the idea. patch that hole up some how, start and run engine. listen for noises, and invest in a mechanical oil pressure guage. this will cost you 40 bucks to find out if your engine is toast or not. personally i'd replace it anyway, because even if it doesn't make noises, chances are you scored the bearings pretty bad.... just confused as how you dont notice 5+ quarts of oil in the bilge.

do not pay for them to replace oil pan and drop it back in without checking to make sure your engine is still good!!!! could be a huge mistake, and your betting on somethign that probably wont turn out to be "ok"
