I purchased a 9.8HP Mercury Model 110. The serial # 5823338 does not show up anywhere online to find the year. The motor starts fine but does not spit any water out of it. I am looking for a breakdown so I can dismantle it and replace whatever parts are needed. How can I obtain this information?

Yeah, I know. I have checked it three times. I also was wondering if someone could have put 9.8 cover on a 15 or something and that is why the number doesn't match.

I figure I need to change the impeller but having never been into an outboard I was also looking for a parts breakdown, directions and pitfalls. I think I will just dive into it. Thanks

Did you look at the link I gave you? On the left are things you click to get the schematic of each part of the motor. My 67's serial number doesn't show up anywhere either but you can look at the ones just lower and the ones just higher and see what matches your motor.

Did you check around the propeller, there is a water intake screen on the underside of the fin right above the prop. I know if I even go near weeds it sucks something up and clogs it. Maybe take a long object and try running it up in there to knock anything loose. I know the impeller is original on my 68.

I have a 1972 110 also and my serial number doesnt show up on the Mercury website either. Check out the website oldmerc.com. They may have a breakdown of number ranges that may tell you the year. Changing the impeller is not that difficult if you have a good set of tools. Here is a tip that could save you alot of frustration. If the lower unit doesnt seem to want fit back into the motor, twist the shifter rod and it should fit back in.
