Anyone have experience owning a carvel planked wooden boat? I see lots of beauties needing new owners but am affraid of out of control costs. If the hull is sound how frequent is recaulking, bottom, topside and deck painting and approx cost/ft?
Thanks for sharing your experience.

Hello,

I am sure some poeple here know about wooden boats. However if you go to www.boatdesign.net follow the links to their wooden boat forum. You will also find lots of info there.

Re: Maintaining a wood boat

If you have a lot of time for maintenance and love working on timber when you could be out there having fun go for it.

The cruel truth is that so many are on the market at low purchase prices because the owners have had enough.

Owning a timber boat is a labour of love and devotion to maintaining it, regardless of time and money involved; if this is not you walk away, no run.....
