1985 Chevy 305 V8 2 bbl mercruiser alpha one. Any rule of thumb for how long I should run at idel before taking off? Also, should I warm up at any certain rpm or just as low as I can?

It seems to stall quite easily at first so I'm wondering if a longer warm-up is the answer or look deeper. After a while it doesn't stall out anymore.

Thanks.

i usually run it at home prior to the lake.
at the lake i warm it up at about 1K till the temp gage reads close to normal. then i go....
don't know if that's the proper way. but it's the way i do it....

I warm it up until the thermostat opens the first time.......;)
1000 to 1500 RPM is good.........:)
