Hi there,
I have a pair of 130 yamahas (v4 2stroke). When they are at idle there seems to be a rattling noise coming from inside the crankcases. Other than the noise they shift good and develop full power. Has anyone heard of internal bearing problems with these motors? They are used in saltwater but are very clean. The boat sat in dry storage for a lot of years. Was wondering if they could rust internaly from lack of use. Any help would be appreciated.
thanks
jeff

Try to take off the shift cable from the engine. If the noise stops the cable is not right adjusted. The cable end should go to the shift rod (#38) smoothly when both (engine and the control) are in neutral. No power should be used to get the cable end to the shift rod.

You also should check the prop installation itself. Be sure the proper spacers were used and that the prop nut is torqued properly.

Re: 1994 Yamaha 130's

Hi again,
Thanks for the replies. I dont think the noise has anything to do with the lower unit or gears. When the engines are at idle out of gear or in gear, they make the same noise. The noise also gets louder as the engines warm up. To me it sounds like bad bearings for the rods.
Thanks for the help.
