yamaha 150 ETLJ CDI

I have a 150 that sat 13months while i was in Iraq. First time I went fishing it shut down and has no spark. Had a freind check it and was told the CDI was bad. Any help on testing or possibley finding one?

u sure it is the cdi?
i say neutral safety switch or ess

was running up river when it shut down, but open to all suggestions , how do i check ess is neutral switch in control?

The likelyhood of it being the CDI are very slim. They hardly ever fail and normally because of a battery hooked up backwards. I would be checking the kill switch and also connections such as the battery terminals and other hook ups.
I do have a large supply of thoses units, but seriously doubt that is the problem. A digital muti meter and the factory service manual should allow you to trace the problem.

best way is unplug means of control and use a remote starter
un plug the whit wire from the cdi box and see if u get spark

checked kill switch and completely disconected it. used manual I just got and regulator/rectifier shows bad. Would this stop spark?

just unplug the white wire from the cdi box
unhooking the ess will not eliminate shorts to the white wire

Replace the rectifier and check the stator and lighting coils. If the battery was hooked up backwards, you may have shot the CDI.
