I have an '85 Mariner 115 In-line 6 with 3 carbs. It has always had a problem with holeshots, and would need to be taken into the local shop to have a tune-up. The tune-up would get it running OK for awhile, but the problem always came back. Today while decarbing, I remembered reading that if fuel comes out of the carbs while pumping the ball, then they need a rebuild.
I figured they would be ok since it has always been maintained by a professional and they would take care of stuff like that. To my surprise 2 of the carbs started gushing fuel AND the fuel pump was leaking also. Do they just need a simple rebuild to get them up to par? And do you think this could be the reason that it always falls on its face?
I plan on rebuilding all 3 carbs/fuel pump and replacing the water pump either way, but was just wondering why every year the guys at the shop can get it running decent for just a little while before it goes downhill again.
Thanks.
