Hey guys..
Last night at dusk, I was attempting to replace my old battery in my '01 Caravelle 188br withthe 4.3 Mercruiser in it. As I was humming along, my wife came out yapping about something, and I wasn't watching was I was doing. I accidently hooked the battery up backwards. I did notice a few sparks coming from the battery terminals, but they quickly stopped. I immediately fixed the problem, but now I am getting no power to the cockpit (i.e. ignition, bilge, horn, or blower.) However my trim on the throttle works fine. I checked my fuse panel under the cockpit, but they are all fine. Where should I look now?? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Shaun in Ky

Blame the wife, will you?!?......:D
It is a red button, either up by the shift plate or down by the alternator...
It should be bolted tothe engine somewhere & it ain't hidden......;)

Yeah, I pushed the red circuit reset button, but no change. Does anyone know where there might be another fuse, or breaker?

Do you have a DVM? Sometimes the breakers fail and do not reset (happened to me once on one of them). Check for voltage on both sides of the breaker. I had to replace one that did not trip and appeared/acted normal.

Almost guaranteed to be # 9 in the picture. Take a test light or multimeter and see if you have voltage on both sides. It is a fuse.

Re: Battery Mishap

You guys are great. I will have to tell my boating buddies about this site.

Limited Time,

Turns out the link you posted was exactly what I needed. I pulled that square fuse off the starter, and low and behold, NO CONTINUITY!! I jumped across the fuse with a jumper wire, and everything works. Now to my next problem, how do I go about replacing it? And what exactly is it called, and how many amps? Thank you all!!

Re: Battery Mishap

If you pulled the old one off, put a new one back on in the reverse order. You can get those 90A fuses from any Merc dealer.
Another possibility would have been to finish reading that other thread.
