Is there any truth to chaning the HP of a engine?

Someone told me that I could make a few changes to my Johnson GT 150 and get 175hp out of it. Is there any truth to this?

You could make some changes and lower the power, yes. Beats me why you'd want to though.

First, the 150GT (or XP for e-rude) is a model desigination, not a horsepower rating. Some of the 150GT / XP motors actually used 200 port timing. The ones that didn't use the exact 200 port timing were real close.

Concentrate on set up. Tell us what ya got and where you're at with it. It'll be time and money better spent.

A GT150 already puts out close to 165 hp. The 86 and up 175 crossflow is a larger displacement engine.
