I just got back from seeing the newest addition to the Pirates of the Caribbean movie. Yes I am one of those geeks that love these movies. The first one blew me away. I loved it. The second was just as good as the first and brought out even more of the kid in me. The third? Well I have to admit I am a little disappointed. I liked it, and I will buy it to go with the other two. The effects were great and grand in every way. The score was thoughtful and added to the action. The problem with this movie is the story. It had a herky jerky presentation and was a little difficult to follow frankly. One of the things that makes Disney films so entertaining is there simplicity. The characters did not end up where I thought they should have in the end. And there where scenes that were too long making them seperate from the story line. I think this should be a buy movie after the price comes down. Don't bother with going to see it in the theatre. As a confirmed 'Pirates' nut and Jack Sparrow wannabe, I think Disney could have done a better job.

Re: Pirate movie review

I thought just the opposite except for the difficulty in following the storyline. There I wholeheartedly agree. Besides that, I was not disappointed.

All three have been kind of hard to follow. I rented the second on CD and there was a version where the makers explained each and every scene and character. It shed a lot of light.

I'll admit to having a shirttail connection with the last two. My brother is in Maine putting the finishing touches on a restoration of the Bounty that was used in the Marlon Brando movie. It's been in quite a few since, just not as the Bounty. It was in the last two Pirates movies, destroyed in both (on film only). They re-launch in a week and then he comes home, and tomorrow is his birthday.

I'm a Pittsburgh Pirate Fan - don't ask me why, guess it goes back to Roberto Clemente, Willie Stargell, The Killer B's, and the We Are Family!

Oh, 'rates of the Carribean ...yea, I like that too, but I will wait for the DVD of #3, just like I did for #1 & #2

I would feel fine taking say...an eight year old to see it. I would go younger but you would have to explain whats going on in the story. The language is fine and the sexiest it gets is when Orlando kisses Kira's knee, plenty tame. Even the fighting is typical overblown pirate stuff. There is a scene in the beginning that is a bit scary showing hangings. But not terribly graffic.

Listen to this.
Saw an interview with Jeffrey Rush (he's the Captain....an Okker too) last week.
He said in Melbourne, where he is resident apparantly, every kid he comes across in the street yells out "Yoooow Captain" to him, with a big grin across their faces. Reckons years back he could never imagine his biggest fans would be kids.
Cheers
