I bought a used aluminum boat with a 30 HP Evinrude outboard, I thought I bought it back in 1985 or 1986. The Model Number is E30TECUB according to the charts the E stands for Evinrude, 30= HP, TE= Tiller Electric and CU= the year 1987. I am not sure what the B stands for. Am I correct in that the motor was indeed built in 1987?

Yup its a 1987. The B means nothing. Its just a model run suffix.

Nice motor. I have the 25hp 88' version and it seems darn near bullet proof.

IF there had been a mid-year change in any part of the motor, the suffix letter would change. It only matters if you are ordering parts that are affected by the change, and that would be indicated in the parts book.
