After many hours of reading, troubleshooting and replacing parts still drawing dead.
Ok here is the history last week started to get my bass boat ready for spring and my our first trip planned to leave in 2 days.
Went to get ready for start-up replaced plugs , changed waterpump , lower-end fluid and change fuel water seperator filter.
Hooked up the muffs and cranked the hose and engine just turns over , no sign of any motor kick over just cranks .
Checked and replaced primer bulb and ajecent fuel lines, checked spark was good.
Also replaced all stock zip tie fuel clamps with real nice fuel line hose clamps to insure no leak was present.
Pulled a few plugs they were dry. Shot some starting fluid in the cyclinders and BAM engine fires up instantly and and idles and runs perfect.Shut it down and it will fire right up and run good also tested and let it run for 25 minutes.Let it sit again for 1/2 hour and won't turn over again same thing can try chokeing it give it throttle no response.
Give it a shot of starting fluid and fires right up again.
Hooked up a remote gas tank with new fuel to test to see if it was a gas issue and same results.Ran Seafoam injector cleaner through the engine and deep creep in throttle body and still same result. Prime bulb is staying hard and can see no leaks.
Opened up VST vapor seporator and checked the float and needle all seem functional and moving.
When I turn the key I can hear the fuel pump run for approx 15 seconds tried to test pump for pressure with a Dial tire pressure gauge and shows no reading, not sure if this is the proper gauge the pump should put out 34-36 lbs .
The engine was properly winterized and the only other thing I changed was the ignition switch because I broke the key off in it .
Replaced it with a aftermarket switch with 7 terminals instead of the stock 6 terminals just transfered wires from old to new the exte termal was marked M there was 2 m's on the replacement and only one on the stock one Could this be the problem?
All other acessories work correctly show just not sure.
Is there some sort of pre primer fuel sending unit or module thats not working ? Just seems real wierd that it will run like it's brand new with a little help from starting fluid and re-start for up to 45 mins after being shut down ,but them after 1-2 hours goes back to the no starting symptom.
Sorry for all the detail it's been quite frustrating and I'm at my witt's end with a trip planned in 2 days and no hope in sight, all service centers booked or closed til after the holiday weekend.
Anyone help
PLEASE
Dean
