Hi, I have a Mariner 9.9 motor, with a push button start on the motor. Not sure the year. Late 80s or Early 90s. I think.
Can I put a Key start on the Console to start the motor? And if so, Is there only one type, or will any work. I've seen a few online, but Non have said that it will work only on One type.
And is it hard to do.

I did a search but ddint find anything that helped me.

Thanks for the Help

Re: electric Start

yes you can, but will probably have to make your own wiring harness. go to mercurypartsexpress.com assessories. or check the merc dealer.

It's not too hard at all. You will want to identify the wiring schematic and just run primary wiring from the existing setup to the key switch. A universal switch should do the trick just fine.

Re: electric Start

Any universal switch will NOT do fine. It must be for a magneto ignition. There are lots of "universal" ignition switches on the marked that are for "battery" ignition. With a "battery" ignition, the stop/run contacts "close" to enable the engine to run. On a magneto ignition switch the stop/run contacts "open" to allow the engine to run. So you need an ignition switch for a two-stroke (with or without the push-to-choke feature.).

i have use 3 push buttons, with out an ignition. 1 is choke, 2 is kill button, 3 is the starter button. no key involved.
